African swine fever

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and haemorrhagic viral disease of domestic pigs and wild boars. One of the reasons for reducing the number of wild boars is the prevention of the transmission of the disease that spreads in nature.

African swine fever (ASF) was first found in wild boars in Estonia in 2014.

The disease is characterized by fever, bleeding, inflammatory changes in organs and high mortality (up to 100% of animals).

Other animal species and people do not become ill with the African swine fever but they can transmit the virus.
