Environmental permit for waste sector

Waste management means the collection, transport, recovery and disposal of waste and includes processing, reusage, recycling and disposal operations of waste. An environmental protection permit is required for the management of waste.

An environmental permit for waste management (waste permit) is required for the following activities:

  • Recovery or disposal of non-hazardous waste
  • Recovery or disposal of hazardous waste in the course of economic activities
  • Recovery or disposal of metal waste in the course of economic activities
  • In case of generation of waste in the course of mining or enrichment of mineral resources
  • Operation of extractive waste facility
  • Operation of a landfill
  • Aftercare of a landfill or extractive waste facility

An environmental permit is not required:

  • From natural persons in case of waste produced by their household
  • Upon collection and transport of waste generated in the course of rescue work by the Rescue Board.

NB! Waste may not be handed over to a person and received by a person who does not have a corresponding and valid registration of a waste handler, an environmental permit or an integrated environmental permit

The time of processing the application for an environmental permit begins with the submission of a compliant application, regarding which the applicant will receive a notification:

  • In case of open proceedings, the granting or refusal of an environmental permit is decided within 90 days.
  • In case of a non-open proceedings, the amendment or refusal of an environmental permit is decided within 30 days.
