August 14, 2010 will mark the 100th anniversary of Vaika Bird Sanctuary, the predecessor of Vilsandi National Park. The date is regarded as the beginning of contemporary nature conservation in Estonia – accordingly, the 100th anniversary of nature conservation in Estonia will be celebrated in 2010.
Conference "Nature Conservation beyond 2010"
To mark the year of the anniversary, the international scientific conference Nature Conservation Beyond 2010 will be held on May 27–29, 2010 in the lecture-hall of the Estonian Art Museum in Tallinn. The aim of the scientific conference is to address the development of nature conservation so far, its current situation and further development trends in the international and local context.
The conference will focus on following themes:
- Ecosystem goods and services
- Ecosystem approach in management
- Success stories of nature conservation
- Nature conservation beyond 2010
- Conservation values and climate change
- Biodiversity, private sector and business
